Younis Khan struck a magnificent 130 as Pakistan looked at lunch as though they could stage a late victory bid when needing 235 in two sessions with eight wickets left but ultimately they settled for the draw.

Younis (resuming on 48) batted for 350 minutes for his 14th Test hundred and was well supported by Kamran Akmal, who scored an impressive 71 before he was bowled by spinner Paul Harris and then by Mohammed Yousuf, who was 63 not out.

Inzamam, requiring 21 runs to pass Miandad's Pakistani record run tally of 8,832 before the match, followed his first innings score of 14 with just three in the second innings. He was stumped off Harris. His farewell was emotional for his home crowd but it has been an outstanding career that spanned 120 Test matches in 15 years with 8,830 runs at an average of 49.60. It dropped below 50 in this match. 

South Africa's win was set up by second innings centuries by Graeme Smith (133) for his first in more than two years, and Jacques Kallis, who scored three hundreds in the series.

South Africa won the first Test by 160 runs.
